Dr. Porter's Office Meets Steve Smith

Samantha, our Dental Assistant, represented Dr. Porter's office at the grand opening for Carolinas Center for Oral and Facial Surgery and their new office in Blakeney! Steve Smith from the Carolina Panthers was there and she got to rub elbows with him and get some great autographs and pictures. How Does A CEREC Appointment Work?

Have you ever wondered about how Dentists can have your crown completed in one short appointment?  It’s very easy!  Dr. Edwin Porter, the best cosmetic dentist in Charlotte, has been using the CEREC technology for a while and has had only happy patients!  He has even achieved so much with the CEREC machine and his design skills that he is teaching other doctors how to master the CEREC technology.  Dr. Porter can create crowns, onlays, and some fillings with the strongest materials on the market right now.  An appointment would be staged like this… You come in our state-of-the-art office and are immediately sat in a comfortable dental chair by the friendly dental assistant.  Dr. Porter come in and gets you numb in the area that we are working on and then you have a short break.  Dr. Porter and his dental assistant come in and prepare the tooth or teeth, image with a digital camera (NO GOOEY IMPRESSIONS!!), and then sit you up and let you relax for an hour while we work!  We would then design the crown to make it cosmetically appealing yet perfectly fitting and functional.  After that, we leave the room and mill the crown out of a solid block of ceramic.  Once that is completed, we glaze, stain, and fire the crown.  After this, the crown is then cooled and prepared for placement.  We then enter your room again and permanently cement the crown.  This all takes place in about two hours, tops!  While you are relaxing, you may watch TV, bring an i-Pad or Kindle to use, get some work out of the way on a laptop, or even sleep in your own private room.  We always turn out the lights for your comfort!

Just another reminder that the office of Dr. Edwin Porter was closed today and will be closed tomorrow, January 11th due to the inclement weather. We may have some emergency hours and will contact patients on a need-basis. Please e-mail or call the office to reschedule. We hope to open the office this Friday for a full working day as well as another day possibly in the future.

Meet Our Dentist

Dr. Edwin Porter is a native to the Charlotte area and one of the leading cosmetic and general dentists in the state. Dr. Porter received his Doctorate of Dental Surgery in 1994 from the University of Chapel Hill and was awarded one of the highest honors for Outstanding Achievement in Operative Dentistry. After being nominated by the faculty of the UNC School of Dentistry, Dr. Porter was given the honor to represent the UNC Dental School at the Advanced Training Seminar hosted by Dr. Gordon Christenson.

With the philosophy that dentistry is a partnership, Dr. Porter educates his patients on good oral hygiene while allowing them to achieve optimal dental health. He believes that improving patient’s smiles through conservative, cosmetic dental techniques has a positive impact on their overall appearance and self confidence. In 2001, after completing 500 approved dental continuing education hours and passing a comprehensive examination, Dr. Porter earned his Fellowship in the Academy of General Dentistry. There are only eight other dentists that are Fellows in the Academy practicing in the Charlotte area.

In accordance with his philosophy on the importance of continuing dental education, Dr. Porter has published several articles in distinguished dental journals and lectured to his dental colleagues. He enjoys being able to share with his peers his acquired dental knowledge through lecture and articles.

Outside of work, Dr. Porter enjoys spending time with his wife and four children. His interests include running and cycling. He has cycled in the MS 150 Race for the past four years and has also run a marathon. He is committed to serving the local community and is actively involved with his church.
