Dr. Porter's Office Meets Steve Smith

Samantha, our Dental Assistant, represented Dr. Porter's office at the grand opening for Carolinas Center for Oral and Facial Surgery and their new office in Blakeney! Steve Smith from the Carolina Panthers was there and she got to rub elbows with him and get some great autographs and pictures. The new office was great and we love to refer our patient's to other offices that have integrity in their work just like Dr. Porter and our staff does. Call us at 704-544-5330 to see if Dr. Porter would be a good dentist fit for you!  We specialize in Implants and Implant Crowns, Sedation Dentistry, CEREC one-visit Crowns, tooth colored fillings, Family Dentistry, Periodontal Cleanings, etc!  Come see what makes us different!

Green Beer and Teeth!

Happy St. Patrick’s Day! For a lot of you, the occasion calls for the well-known "green beer" enjoyed at your favorite Irish pub, but if you are in the process of whitening your teeth, you may want to rethink the color of your beverage this weekend.
During the whitening process the pores of the enamel are opened from the use of bleaching agents, allowing the hydrogen peroxide or carbamide peroxide to enter the dentin layer of the tooth. It is very important that during this time you avoid foods and beverages that contain high levels of pigment, such as yellow mustard, grape juice, red wine, tomato sauce... you get the point.
So why is "green beer" a “no no” for people that are whitening their teeth? The addition of the green food coloring to your beer making it that beautiful Irish green, could penetrate the tooth resulting in a green tinge to the teeth; not the results you were expecting! In place of green beer, consider an Irish feast for dinner, just hold the mustard!
